Colombian police rescue kidnapped lottery winner

Bogota, Oct 13 (IANS/EFE) A businessman in a Colombian border town was rescued from his kidnappers who were after his $50,000 lottery prize, police said. The rescue operation took place in Villa del Rosario, a town located a few meters from the Venezuelan border, where the three suspects were arrested. The businessman was kidnapped 'on Venezuelan territory' and taken to Villa del Rosario. Police seized several firearms from the suspects, two of whom served prison time for extortion. Police were tipped off that 'a kidnapped person was being held at a ranch in Villa del Rosario', said Col. Jorge Ivan Florez Cardenas, commander of the Metropolitan Police in the border city of Cucuta. The victim, whose identity was not released, is a resident of Cucuta who was 'kidnapped on Oct 6 in a rural area outside San Antonio del Tachira (Venezuela)', Florez Cardenas said.

The much awaited Jr. NTR starrer film Brindavanam has finally hit the screens after being postponed a couple of times. The fans have waited with bated breasth to see how their hero looked in his new soft character.
Story:
Krishna@Krish (Jr. NTR) is the only son of a rich business magnate Mukesh Rushi. Krishs dad and mother love him very much and give him complete freedom to lead life as he wishes. Krish love Indu (Samantha) who is an engineering student.
Krish has this habit of helping people who are in trouble. This actually leads him into trouble when he agrees to help Indu without asking as to what he is required to do.
Indu wants Krish to act as the lover of Bhumi (Kajal Agarwal) and go to her home to meet her family members. Bhumis father Prakash Raj wants to give away his daughter in marriage to his wifes brothers son Ajay.
The problem is Ajay is a good for nothing fellow, who terrorizes everyone in the village and leads the life of a goon. Bhumi by introducing Krish as her lover wants to buy time so that she can somehow come out of her problem.
Krish lands up in Bhumis house. The house is called Brindavanam. Everyone in the house is terrified of Praksha Raj. Krisha now realizes that he has more work to do and set right many things in the house and not just act as Bhumis lover.
Prakash Raj has a running feud with Sri Hari of the neighboring village. The problem is Sri Hari is also the son of Prakash Rajs father Kota but their mothers are different.
Krish now begins to set things right and unites the two brothers. He thinks his job is finished but then Indu comes to the village. She is the niece of Sri Hari. Meanwhile Prakash Raj decided to get his daughter married to Bhumi.
Ajay who is angry at being denied the hand of Bhumi plots to eliminate Jr. NTR but does not succeed. He then kidnaps Krishs parents and brings them to the village.
Here Jr. NTR has already set up Brahmanadam as his father. Now it is like musical chairs and Indu and Bhumi are now in a big dilemma as the drama that they have started has now landed them in trouble.
Bhumi is now deeply in love with Krish. Prakash Raj and Sri Hari are stumped as they dont now as to whom Krish should now marry� Bhumi or Indu. To know the ending, watch the film on the screen.
Performance:
Jr. NTR looks different in his new soft role. He does a good job but somehow his trademark mannerism and style are missing in the film. He still gets a chance to bash up a few goons and as usual he also dances very well.
Kajal Agarwal carries her role of a demure girl with conviction. She also sizzles in a couple of songs and does justice to her role.
Samatha has a meaty role and she also comes up with a fairly convincing performance. With this film Samatha sheds her homely girl image tag from Ye Maaya Chesavo quite easily.
Prakash Raj plays a routine role and Sri Hari gets to play another trademark character for which he is now famous. Venu does his routine comedy and so does Brahmanandam.
Tanikella Bharani, Raghu Babu, Ajay, Mukesh Rushi and others do their act as per the requirements of the script.
Analysis:
Jr. NTR must be commended for his courage to accept a soft character that is totally in contrast to his mass hero image. The film begins on a slow note but the interval bang is good as Kajals father agrees to let her marry NTR just as Samatha enters the scene.
Most of the action is in the second half. While there are some fights, duets and comedy, the film drags on. Music is okay and a couple os songs rock.
The director seems to have been confused a bit as he puts in too many things in the film thereby making it a long drawn out family drama.
Verdict:
Brindavana as the director has promised is a soft family drama. The film is quite heavy on sentiment it may be a bit had for the fans of Jr. to relish it. The climax is predictable and there is hardly any surprise element.
The film entertains but only partly. The fate of the film now rests on word of mouth publicity and the patronage of ladies and family audiences.

Rajinikanth goes to Himalayas on a Holiday

Rajinikanth was busy for two long years shooting for his magnum opus Endhriran/Robot. His hectic scheduled restricted him from taking any rest or holiday during the period. Now that the film had hit the screens, the Super Star found time and went on a holiday to his favourite place, in fact the holy place, the Himalayas. He was accompanied by few of his family members and close friends.
The South Indian Super Star, NOW more apt to say the Indian Super Star, who is also a spiritualist, will spend a month in the Himalayas. It is said that Rajinkanth will spend his time meditating and meeting spiritual masters. The actor is also said to go to Kailash Mansarovar during the trip.
Rajinikanth is expected to announce his future plans i.e. his next film and its details after he returns from the holiday. He is expected to come back to Chennai for Diwali.
