Bogota, Oct 13 (IANS/EFE) A businessman in a Colombian border town was rescued from his kidnappers who were after his $50,000 lottery prize, police said.
The rescue operation took place in Villa del Rosario, a town located a few meters from the Venezuelan border, where the three suspects were arrested.
The businessman was kidnapped 'on Venezuelan territory' and taken to Villa del Rosario.
Police seized several firearms from the suspects, two of whom served prison time for extortion.
Police were tipped off that 'a kidnapped person was being held at a ranch in Villa del Rosario', said Col. Jorge Ivan Florez Cardenas, commander of the Metropolitan Police in the border city of Cucuta.
The victim, whose identity was not released, is a resident of Cucuta who was 'kidnapped on Oct 6 in a rural area outside San Antonio del Tachira (Venezuela)', Florez Cardenas said.
